New Camas Washougal Community Recreation Center
We
envision the new Camas-Washougal Community Recreation Center as the
heart of our respective communities, fueling and nourishing the
citizens of Camas and Washougal in many ways. The Center will be a hub
of various activities that reflect positive movement of all kinds. The
Center will be a safe place where all ages and abilities may come to
play, learn, socialize, exercise, and embrace life.
In our vision, the Center sits exactly between Camas and Washougal. It is surrounded by trees and trails that lead across the Washougal River into the beautiful Washougal River Greenway. The center is majestically guarded by Mt. Hood at its entrance. Inspiration is found in all directions.

Key Objectives
• Create a District-wide identity that unifies and captures the spirit of Camas and Washougal.
• Build partnerships among the community, schools and the business sector by being inclusive of all.
• Offer a wide range of activities that promote social interaction, wellness, recreation and education for all age groups including
toddlers, teens, adults and seniors.
• Allow for multiple uses of the facility through flexible scheduling and programs that can coexist in harmony and respond to changing
interests and growth of the District
• Reinforce the natural setting, local history and the Washougal River Greenway.
• Provide a strong relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces.
• Integrate green design practices into the building and site design and pursueLEED Certification.
• Create a facility design that can be efficiently operated and maintained, while providing outstanding service to its users.
• Provide a facility that is financially feasible, affordable and sustainable.
• Complement, but not duplicate services available to the community. In the fall of 2006, planning began. The 50,000
square foot Community Recreation Center will enable the pursuit of recreational, social, educational, and cultural
opportunities that are currently unobtainable due to lack of space and proper amenities. Our new facility will house
• The Community Room - 300 seated (Divisible into 3 multipurpose spaces)
• Caterer’s Kitchen • Dedicated Senior space and Lounge; gatherings, educational programs, computer access, table games
• The Aquatic Center; lap pool, locker rooms, leisure pool, recreation, swimming lessons, spa, 5,200 total sq ft of water surface.
• The Special Events Room (Divisible into 2 spaces), child watch, parties
• Wood Floor Studio; exercise, dance, multiuse space
• The Classroom; educational, community meetings, after school, health screening,
• Visiting services room and more.
